Kristie and Derek got married in early November. It was an absolutely beautiful Fall day for a farm wedding. Her parents own and operate Schmitt’s Family Farm in Riverhead and transformed one of their barns into a beautiful venue for their daughter’s wedding day, the teamwork that made this happen was big. You will just love the transformation. I felt very flattered when I got Kristie’s inquiry for her wedding photography as her brother DJ Phil, as most know him, had recommended me and he knows a heck of a lot of photographers. The two of them are so much fun to be around. This was my last wedding of my 2017 season and it was a truly memorable one. There was such happiness, love and positive energy.
I love how Kristie tells the story of how they met: “Way back when, circa 1996, ‘Mrs. M’ put in a good word for me with her young son, Derek. Fast forward to 9th grade lunch in the RHS courtyard… we finally meet. His opener: ‘You know my Mom!’ High school goes by, we both date other people, but are always in the same wider circle of friends.
We both went on to college (and aren’t even Facebook friends ?!? although frequently pop up in the ‘people you may know’ feature for each to wonder ‘what ever happened to him/her??’).
We graduated and began our careers in separate states – him in New York and me in Connecticut. Then one night, just before Christmas 2012, we were both out east for the holidays and I headed to Buckley’s where my older brother DJ Phil was spinning the tunes. And Derek was dragged out by childhood neighbor, Jacqui Fusco. Having not seen each other for seven years, Derek’s opener was: ‘How do you like that iPhone? ‘ (He’s always been one for the creative one-liners.)
And the rest is history (Derek now owns an iPhone).”
A special thank you to my talented and great friend James Collier for second shooting with me. Here are more then a few of my favorites to share:
